About the author

A practical series shaped by field experience.

A. Thomas is the author of The Inspector’s Handbook Series and the developer of the Toolbox to Table training programs.

After years of working in industrial construction, fabrication, maintenance, and quality inspection, I repeatedly encountered the same challenge: even experienced professionals can struggle to find the right information when they need it most. In the field, having clear and practical guidance available at the right moment can make the difference between confidence and uncertainty.

I created The Inspector’s Handbook Series and Toolbox to Table to help bridge the gap between construction codes, industry standards, formal training, and everyday field application. These resources are not intended to replace governing codes, project requirements, engineering judgment, or qualified professional experience. Their purpose is to organize important information into practical references that inspectors, supervisors, QA/QC personnel, skilled trades professionals, and others can use throughout their daily work.

The growing series covers welding, piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, structural steel, coatings, nondestructive examination, valves, rotating equipment, documentation, and other inspection disciplines. The Toolbox to Table training programs build on that same practical approach by helping professionals understand—not simply memorize—the requirements behind the work they perform.

Whether someone is interpreting a Welding Procedure Specification, reviewing quality documentation, evaluating inspection results, or witnessing a pressure test, the goal remains the same:

To help professionals make informed decisions, improve consistency, and continue learning throughout their careers.

Built for the field. Written for the inspector.
